USCIS updates cases at random hours and the letter takes a week to arrive. We check your case every few hours and message you the moment it moves.
USCIS accepted your filing and sent a receipt notice (Form I-797C).
Next: Keep the receipt number. Biometrics, if needed, usually come next within a few weeks.
An officer is working on your case. It's a normal step, not a sign of a problem.
Next: This status can last weeks or months. The next update is often an approval, an interview or a Request for Evidence.
USCIS moved your case to another office, usually to balance workload or to schedule an interview locally.
Next: A transfer is routine. Processing continues at the new office, which may have different processing times.
USCIS needs more documents before it can decide. The letter lists exactly what is missing.
Next: Respond by the deadline on the notice, usually 87 days. Many people have an immigration attorney review the response.
Your interview is booked. The notice in the mail has the date, time and office.
Next: Prepare your original documents and arrive early. Approvals often follow within weeks of the interview.
USCIS approved your case. The approval notice is in the mail.
Next: If a card comes with this benefit, expect a 'Card Is Being Produced' and 'Card Was Mailed' update next.
A U.S. citizen or green card holder files Form I-130 to prove a family relationship: a spouse, child, parent or sibling. Approval doesn't give anyone a green card by itself. It confirms the relationship so your relative can take the next step.
The petitioner gets the receipt notice. Online filings have receipt numbers starting with IOE; paper filings often start with a service center or National Benefits Center code such as NBC, MSC, EAC, WAC, LIN or SRC.
If your relative is in the U.S. and eligible to adjust status, the I-130 is often filed together with an I-485. In that case, track both receipt numbers: the green card itself comes from the I-485.
If your relative is abroad, the approved petition goes to the National Visa Center (NVC) and then to a U.S. embassy or consulate for an interview. The USCIS status stops changing once the case leaves USCIS, which is normal.
Spouses, unmarried children under 21 and parents of U.S. citizens are immediate relatives, with no yearly limit. Other categories wait for a visa number based on their priority date, which is the date USCIS received the I-130. The State Department's Visa Bulletin shows which priority dates are current each month.
Enter the receipt number from your I-130 receipt notice above. You'll see the current status, what it means and the full history, and you can turn on WhatsApp or email alerts.
It depends on the relationship, the office handling the case and whether it was filed with an I-485. Instead of a national average, CaseTracker Personal estimates your decision date from real I-130 cases decided in the last year.
If your relative is adjusting status in the U.S., the I-485 continues on its own. If they're abroad, the case moves to the National Visa Center and then to a consular interview.
Not yet. It confirms the relationship. Your relative still needs a green card through an I-485 or an immigrant visa through a U.S. consulate.
Yes. CaseTracker Personal follows up to 10 receipt numbers on one account, so you can track the I-130, I-485, I-765 and I-131 for your whole family.
