USCIS updates cases at random hours and the letter takes a week to arrive. We check your case every few hours and message you the moment it moves.
USCIS accepted your filing and sent a receipt notice (Form I-797C).
Next: Keep the receipt number. Biometrics, if needed, usually come next within a few weeks.
An officer is working on your case. It's a normal step, not a sign of a problem.
Next: This status can last weeks or months. The next update is often an approval, an interview or a Request for Evidence.
USCIS needs more documents before it can decide. The letter lists exactly what is missing.
Next: Respond by the deadline on the notice, usually 87 days. Many people have an immigration attorney review the response.
USCIS has your answer to the Request for Evidence and the case is back in line for review.
Next: The next update is usually the decision, though it can take a few weeks or longer.
USCIS approved your case. The approval notice is in the mail.
Next: If a card comes with this benefit, expect a 'Card Is Being Produced' and 'Card Was Mailed' update next.
USCIS denied the application or petition. The notice explains why.
Next: Depending on the case you may be able to appeal, file a motion or refile. Talk to an immigration attorney quickly; deadlines are short.
A U.S. citizen files Form I-129F to bring a fiancé(e) to the U.S. to marry. USCIS decides the petition; the visa itself is issued later by a U.S. embassy or consulate. The receipt notice goes to the petitioner, and online filings start with IOE.
The approved petition goes to the National Visa Center (NVC), then to the embassy or consulate in your fiancé(e)'s country for the visa interview. The USCIS status usually stays on 'approved' from that point, which is normal: the next updates come from the State Department.
On a K-1 visa you must marry the petitioner within 90 days of entering the U.S. After the wedding, your spouse files an I-485 for a green card, often with an I-765 work permit and an I-131 travel document. Each one gets its own receipt number to track.
For the USCIS part, enter the receipt number from the I-129F receipt notice above. After approval, the case moves to the National Visa Center and the embassy, which have their own status tools.
It varies by service center and case. CaseTracker Personal estimates your decision date from real I-129F cases decided in the last year.
Once USCIS approves it, the petition leaves USCIS for the National Visa Center and the embassy. USCIS has nothing more to update, so the status usually stays the same.
Yes. CaseTracker Personal follows up to 10 receipt numbers on one account, so you can add the I-485, I-765 and I-131 when you file them.
